Walter Rauschenbusch (1861–1918) was the best-known exponent of the Social Gospel movement in North America. His formative theological writings reflected a distinctive synthesis of evangelical and liberal Protestantism that addressed systemically the social and economic problems of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
