Persian-speaking Jews settled in China by the 10th century; the longest-lived community was in the city of Kaifeng. What survives of their book culture includes Torah scrolls on parchment and manuscript codices written in Hebrew on rice paper, which include biblical texts, liturgies, and a community memorial book.
