[German Version] (Sep 18, 1868, Zaandam – Jul 19, 1946, Beuron), Dutch disciple of E.H.P. Gauguin. In 1891/1892 he joined the group of artists called the Nabis, where he was strongly influenced by Paul Sérusier and painted pictures of Brittany in the spirit of Synthetism. He was converted to Catholicism in 1892 and ordained to the priesthood in 1894. He worked closely with the Benedictine abbot Desiderius Lenz.
