[German Version] (c. 2nd–3rd cent. ce) is regarded as the founder of the Madhyamaka doctrine (Mādhyamika) and the first philosophical school of Mahāyāna Buddhism. According to legend, Nāgārjuna spent most of his life in South India in the Āndhra kingdom. Accounts of his life and traditional information concerning his literary output are dubious.
