Nesiga (נסיגה ‘retreat’) is a sandhi phenomenon avoiding the juxtaposition of stressed syllables. Final stress is retracted to an open penultimate syllable before a word with initial stress. 1st and 2nd person ‘ Waw consecutive’ perfect forms show stress on the closed penultimate syllable before a word with initial stress, suggesting similar retraction.
