From the Greek τετραγράμματον (‘of four letters’), Tetragrammaton is the technical term used for the four-letter personal name of the God of Israel, which, according to common practice, ceased being pronounced aloud in antiquity. The original pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton is a matter of speculation.
