Introduction There were three major developments regarding the Muslim population in Greece in 2015. The first was the huge flows of migrants and refugees, mainly from Syria but also from Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, that started to cross the Aegean Sea from spring onwards, a situation that escalated during the summer time and continued until the end of 2015. Their presence in Greek society, even if it was only for a few days or weeks before finding a path to other European destinations, has caused furious debates and conflicts, particularly in the political sphere, while the vast majority of local communities expressed positive attitudes towards refugees.
