[German version] C. Salonius M. Patruinus. Senator from Vicetia in Upper Italy. He was praetor before 78 AD, when he acted as magister of the Arvales fratres . He died the same year (CIL VI 2056). An inscription from Vicetia refers to another senator who was elevated to the Senate by Claudius; whether he became a patrician at the same time is disputed [1; 2. 324ff.]. This title next appears as an epithet for Probus, Diocletian, and his co-rulers, then for Constantine, in each case with the addition maximus. The title has been erroneously ascribed to other rulers. Although she was not exceptionally beautiful and was already the mother of three daughters, Caligula had a relationship and a close personal bond with her. He married her when she was pregnant, shortly before the birth of a daughter who was given the name Iulia [14] Drusilla. However, Nero did not grant M. the name Augusta. She was murdered together with Caligula and her daughter at the beginning of the year 41 by a centurio. Nothing in CIL VI 32347 (Acts of the Arval brethren) points to the deletion of her name.
