La Liberté/El Horria (French and Arabic, respectively for liberty) was a Jewish newspaper that appeared in Tangier, Morocco, between 1915 and 1922. It was published and printed by Salomon Benaioun (Ben Ayoun) (d. 1921). Originally from Oran, Algeria, Benaioun moved to Tangier in the late nineteenth century, where he issued several publications from his self-owned Imprimerie Française du Maroc printing house. La Revista Maguén-Escudo, often abbreviated as Maguén, is a Jewish periodical founded in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1970. Although its name combines the Hebrew word magen (shield) and its Spanish equivalent, escudo, Maguén appears only in the Spanish language. Salomon Benaioun (Ben Ayoun) (b. July 30, 1867, d. March 22, 1921) was a printer from Oran who established the Imprimerie Française du Maroc, one of the first modern printing houses in Morocco, after moving from Oran to Paris and acquiring printing skills there. At the request of Haïm Benchimol and with the invitation of the French Legation in Tangier, he settled in Tangier at the end of the nineteenth century to publish Le Reveil du Maroc, one of Morocco’s first newspapers.
