Barberis addresses the question of whether, within the framework of the international legal order, there are standards applicable only in a particular regional area or whether, on the contrary, all these standards are universal in scope. In the first part of the course, the author provides the necessary elements to identify the various standards that constitute the international legal order. He also analyzes the characteristics of regional legal standards. In the second part, the author presents the result of investigations on the existence of regional legal standards in Latin America. The methodology used to determine the Latin-American specific standards was to analyze the law currently in force in Latin America by using the concepts of "region" and of "regional legal standard" set out in the first part.
