History of Religions Biblical gardens are related to the garden in Gen 2:8ff., which came into being not through God's creative word ¶ but through his creative work. Like paradise and Eden (i.e. the region where the garden is said to have been located), the word refers to a place where the first human beings are said to have lived in harmony with God and nature.
