[German Version] were two Roman martyrs (at the time of Diocletian?), whose graves were venerated in the Domitilla Catacomb (Catacombs) on the Via Ardeatina (feast day May 12). An early place of worship (before 350) was extended, probably by Damasus I, to a basilica with a nave and two aisles, half underground. According to an inscription there, Nereus and Achilleus were soldiers who were martyred after their conversion and after abandonment of their military service.
