1. Term The term “catechist” (from Gk. katēcheō, “instruct”) occurs in the NT only in Gal. 6:6. It means the same as didaskaloi, “teachers,” who in 1 Cor. 12:28 and Eph. 4:11 are grouped by Paul among charismatics and who had the task of instructing those who sought baptism in the fundamentals of the faith.
