[1] Mother of Cleisthenes of Athens (6th cent. BC)
Daughter of the tyrant Cleisthenes of Sicyon, wife of the Alcmaeonid Megacles, mother of Cleisthenes of Athens. The story of the long courtship before her marriage around 575 BC can be regarded as the paradigmatic depiction of the lifestyle of the archaic aristocracy (Hdt. 6,126 ff.).
