(Μασσαβάται/Massabátai, Μεσσαβάται/Messabátai, Latin Messabatae). Inhabitants of the region of Massabatice (Μασσαβατική/Massabatikḗ, Μεσ(σ)αβατική/Mes(s)abatikḗ), which was named after them, in southern Media or northern Elymaeis (Str. 11,13,6; 16,1,18; Plin. HN 6,134), or - less likely - south of the Elymaeis region in the northernmost part of Persis (Ptol. 6,4,3; cf. Plin. HN 6,135).
