M. Salvius Otho, Roman emperor in AD 69, born on 28.4.32 AD. The family came from Ferentum in Etruria. O.'s grandfather was the first in the family to be admitted to the Senate. His father was L. Salvius Otho, cos. suff. in 33; his mother, Albia Terentia, came from an equestrian family. From the time of Augustus, the family of the Salvii was closely connected with the domus Augusta.
