(ῥοδοδένδρον/rhododéndron or ῥοδοδάφνη/ rhododáphnē, in Latin for the first time in Ps.-Verg. Culex 402, νήριον/nḗrion e.g. in Dioscorides 4,81 Wellmann = 4,82 Berendes, Latin nerium, rododafne in Pall. Agric. 1,35,9), the rosebay, the oleander (Nerium oleander) or the alpenrose (R. ferrugineum and hirsutum L.), appears only in the 1st cent. AD in Plin.
