Bārbak was one of the most powerful of the medieval rulers of Bengal, achieving a great reputation from his warfare against the Hindu rulers of Orissa and northern and eastern Bengal, regaining Silhet [q.v.] (Sylhet) and also Chittagong [q.v.] from the Arakanese.
