The term “nature religion” has been used in a great variety of senses, of which seven are distinguished here.
Philosophical. In the second and first centuries b.c. (later, the Stoics), and also in the 18th century (D. Hume), early doctrines of human nature came to completion with the observation or postulation of a disposition that in the modern period would be called religious.
