Vereinbarungen beruht. Der B.-Begriff ist folglich keine aus der Epoche gewonnene Bezeichnung (wie z. B. Renaissance, Aufklärung oder Romantik), sondern eine nachträglich im Bereich der Wissenschaft entstandene zeitliche und inhaltliche Konstruktion, um Werke der Kunst, Literatur und Musik und ihre spezifischen Gestaltungen im Zeitraum vom späten 16. bis zum späten 18. Jh. zu charakterisieren. Insbes. die Frage, ob in den Künsten von einem B.-Stil gesprochen werden könne, wird kontrovers diskutiert und auch zu keiner eindeutigen Bestimmung zu führen sein.
