nafṭ (Persian
nafṭ) is applied to the purest form (
ṣafwa ) of Mesopotamian bitumen (
ḳīr —or
ḳār —
bābilī ). Its natural colour is white. It occasionally occurs in a black form, but this can be rendered white by sublimation.
