Given the androcentrism of traditional scholarship, the category of homo religiosus has usually yielded knowledge of the religious male, but this work must be scrutinized and reevaluated today from the perspective of gender studies. From this perspective, generalizing statements about women and men in the context of religious studies can be seen more or less as projections of culturally and socioculturally determined gender roles (Gender relations) onto religious history.
