From its strategically favoured position C. controlled the routes to Sybaris and the Tyrrhenian Sea. [English version] Fluß in Bruttium, der bei Consentia entspringt und bei Thurioi ins Meer mündet, h. Crati. Mit seinem Wasser konnten der Sage nach Menschen wie Tiere ihre Haare blond einfärben (Eur. Tro. 228; Ail. nat. 12,36; Aristot. mir. 169). Sein Tal bildete die Hauptverbindung zw. dem inneren Bruttium und der Ebene von Sybaris.
