[German Version] (c. 1500, Altdorf – May 3, 1561, Jáchymov [Joachimsthal], Bohemia), teacher and cantor in Joachimsthal from 1518 onward. As attested by a letter written to him by Luther, Herman was an early adherent of the Reformation. His lifelong friendship with J. Mathesius was of crucial importance. He composed Latin liturgical texts for use in worship, and wrote spiritual hymns in German for school and home usage, for which he also wrote the melodies.
